SKYDATA and Sony of Canada Sign Distribution Agreement

TORONTO – April 2nd, 2003 - Sony of Canada Ltd.’s Communication Information Solutions (CIS) Group announced today it has signed a new distribution agreement with Skydata Corp. Under the new alliance, Skydata will have exclusive distribution rights to Sony’s S-AIT PetaSite® library systems, Sony’s new line of high-end automation tape library systems based on S-AIT drive technology. S-AIT is currently the industry's highest capacity data tape technology.

As a leading provider of mass storage solutions, Skydata will incorporate Sony’s S-AIT PetaSite systems into its product line, which comprises tape drives and autoloaders. The agreement leverages both companies’ leading technology and sales expertise and will provide resellers with Sony’s industry-leading S-AIT product family within a full suite of desktop to data centre solutions.

Skydata has solid enterprise storage expertise and offers resellers high-level storage management and SAN/NAS training. The company has also been a longtime Sony partner, selling products and solutions as an OEM since 1995.“We are delighted to further strengthen our relationship with Skydata, as this agreement will expand Sony’s reach to all its channel partners,” said Geoffrey McMurdo, Group Marketing Manager, CIS Group, Sony of Canada Ltd. “From the technical expertise to sales engineering support, Skydata offers a whole solution to the channel.”

“Under our new agreement with Sony, we can offer our resellers and their customers a reliable backup and consolidation solution,” said Howard Goldberg, CEO Skydata Corp. “As petabyte storage management is already a reality for some companies, we will now have the ability to deliver and service high-end storage solutions that will set new precedents in the industry.”

S-AIT PetaSite systems, which will be available in June, bring high-speed backup and restores to life for enterprises and digital content providers. Sustained native data transfer rates for the S-AIT PetaSite library will reach up to 2.88 gigabytes (GB) per second and a standard file can be restored in just over one minute. Sony is also shipping its first-generation S-AIT drives and media to tape library automation Original Equipment Manufactures (OEMs) this spring.
