Entry-level to Enterprise-class Switches for Today's SANS

Products :: Storage Networks :: Brocade

The industry-leading Brocade SilkWorm family of fabric switches connects servers and storage devices throughout Fibre Channel SANs. These high-speed, robust storage networks enable organizations to access and share data in a high-performance, manageable, and scalable manner.

To help protect existing investments, the SilkWorm family of switches is fully forward and backward compatible. This capability enables organizations to migrate from 1 to 2 Gbit/sec SAN environments and deploy highly scalable core-to-edge storage networking infrastructures. SilkWorm switch models range in size from 8 ports to configurations of dual 64 ports, and can function as standalone, edge, or core switches, depending upon specific SAN requirements.

Entry-level to Enterprise-class Switches for Today's SANS

High Availability Through the Fabric
SilkWorm switches meet high-availability requirements with redundant, hot-pluggable components, automatic path rerouting, and extensive diagnostics. Leveraging the Brocade networking model. These switches provide a SAN fabric capable of delivering overall system availability greater than 99.999 percent.

Affordable Scalability
To meet organizations' needs for scalable and affordable SAN solutions, SilkWorm switches are backward and forward compatible-providing a seamless migration path to 2 Gbit/sec connectivity and intelligent fabric services. In addition, support for multivendor SAN environments provides much greater flexibility in utilizing existing technology resources in cost-effective, easy-to-manage SAN environments.

Fast, Reliable 2 Gbit/sec Performance
From the 8-port SilkWorm 3250 to the 32-port SilkWorm 3900, organizations can experience high performance by using Brocade ISL Trunking to achieve 8 Gbit/sec throughput.

Simplified Deployment and Management
As a single Field-Replaceable Unit (FRU) with options for full-fabric or entry-fabric operation, SilkWorm switches are easy to deploy. When used in dual-fabric SAN environments, they support the highest levels of availability, reliability, and scalability. In addition, the SilkWorm 3250, 3850, and 3900 switches simplify administration through embedded Brocade WEB TOOLS management software.

Excellent Value for a Variety of SAN Environments
Designed for flexibility, SilkWorm switches provide a low-cost solution for DAS-to-SAN migration, small SAN islands, NAS back ends, the edge of core-to-edge enterprise SANs, and hub/loop switch replacement. As a result, these switches can provide a solution for a departmental SAN fabric (as a small core) or for an edge switch in large enterprise SANs.
